MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Another year has passed and we are now in 2025. The world around us is changing and our ways of gardening also. We are now more aware of conserving what we have and trying to rejuvenate ways that have passed such as wild flower meadows, more hedgerows and leaving our grass longer in early summer to encourage bees and other pollinating insects. It is important as a Society to keep nature to the fore in as many ways as we can. I am sure you will all agree with our philosophy.

On a different note we are planning a coach trip to the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show on Thursday 3rd July. We need to get commitment before we have to pay for the tickets at the end of January. The RHS need to be paid upfront. The cost will be between £45-£50 per person, which will include the coach from Sarratt Village Hall and a driver’s tip. Further details can be found bellow.

Finally I hope you are all checking the Thompson and Morgan catalogue for discounted seeds ready for two bumper Shows this year - see below for the code.

HAMPTON COURT

The RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival is a "must go to" event in the gardening calendar.

Sarratt Horti, as a member of the RHS, is able to get discounted tickets and we have booked a coach for the Thursday 3rd July.

Travel and parking is not easy at Hampton Court so our coach booking offers members and friends the opportunity to attend without the hassle.

To qualify for the discounted tickets we need to pay the RHS by the end of January so we need to know how many of you would like to come.

The price will be £45-50 per person including ticket, coach and drivers tip - the more we get the lower the cost.

Since our email a week or so ago, places are going fast.  All welcome and we would like to fill a large coach!  Please contact Jennifer Haynes as soon as possible if you would like to reserve space(s) Tel: 01923 590542 email Jennifer.haynes777@gmail.com

UPDATES FOR THE SHOW SCHEDULES

SPRING SHOW - CAMELLIAS - We now have two classes - Camellia One Stem - multiple blooms and single bloom

AUTUMN SHOW - NEW - Garlic Bulbs

AUTUMN SHOW - NEW - Master Gardener - We have a new class in the Autumn 2025 Show.  This is  ‘Master Gardener’ and the entries consist of three vegetables, two flowers and one fruit all displayed on a dinner plate.  There will be a separate prize (to be decided) for this category as well as attracting double points for the show.   The idea has been adopted from seeing it at other shows.  An example is shown in the photo above.  Whilst needing a range of produce, there isn’t the need to have more than one of any particular item.  So often, it can be difficult to find three courgettes or four roses that look nice but finding one of each makes it more feasible to enter.
